(Example Application) Luun - Prot Warrior - Sunstrider EU

Postby Luun on Fri Mar 04, 2011 12:52 am

If I forgot something vital; please ask!

1) PERSONAL INFORMATION

A. Personal Name: Markus
B. Age and Gender: 19 | Male
C. Where are you from? Oslo, Norway

2) YOUR CHARACTER

A. Server: Sunstrider
B. Character Name: Luun
C. Race and Class: Tauren Warrior
D. Number of days played (/played): I have played alot of different characters over the years, but somewhat close to... alot :/
E. Anything else you would like to mention about your character to make it shine? Since I did not find a part in the application template where I could discuss gear/gems/talents and so on I will do this here.
Do note I currently raid 10man and therefor my gear/spec is made for that.

Gearing a prot warrior.
You stack mastery and stamina, combinded with parry/dodge, with more parry compared to dodge.
When gemming you can either go for mastery>stam type of gemming or stam>mastery. I decided to go for stam>mastery due to our low magic dmg reduction abilities (mastery provides only physical reduction).
I tried mastery stacking aswell, but together with my healers we decided it was better with stamina gemming for now. This can quickly change when I raid 25man and I simply need to test it.

I have around 15 expertise(3 expertise items not reforged) for easier burst threat at the start of a boss fight or when picking up adds. Slighty because you do lack MDs in 10man compared to 25, although some warriors raiding 25m choose to run 0-6 expertise, while some choose to run with around 20-26. It depends on your assignements in raids. If I find out I need more burst threat I will probably change some parry/stam gems into exp/stam for less dodges/parries. If my threat is fine I will most likely reforge the exp into dodge and possibly change out some items in favour of dodge/mastery or parry/mastery items. If I am able to obtain these items of course. (Magmaw boots for example)

I have also reforged the dodge away from my two dodge/hit items in order to gain alot more mastery, while also maintaining a small amount of hit because of the fact that I do need to interupt on some fights (Probably not needed in 25man, although
the extra gained mastery from reforging the dodge might even be worth it if you don't really need the hit for interupting)

Ideally you would want a fine balance between parry/dodge, parry a few % above. High stamina and being "unhitable" with the help of high block. This is not possible at the moment as a warrior (reaching "unhitable).

My two prot specs are made for:

Spec 1: Boss tanking/possibly tanking adds aswell. If I knew there was no adds whatsoever involved I may change some things around to get 3/3 deep wounds. Although this only happens on fights such as atramades, where incoming rage is high anyway, and threat is not
a problem after the initial burst. This is the spec I would use if I did not have a special role (such as kiting)
Spec 2: A spec made for kiting adds on maloriak/nef/Omno(our hunter quit, so I have to slow the adds).

I always have 33 points in prot right now and I really like those talents. Some people take points out of shield spec or thunderstruck in order to gain deep wounds or possibly safeguard. I never really use safeguard in 10man, although it might be a powerful tool in 25man. Most bosses have adds or "nuke phases with increased dmg taken", which makes thunderstruck a very good talent (shockwave crits ALOT!)
I tend to have alot of rage problems on some bosses (Might be due to 10man, not sure) therefor I always keep 3/3 in shield spec for the extra rage gained from a blocked attack.

I usually prepot with a rage potion, in order to make sure I can use my abilities in the start. A golemblood potion is a very good option aswell, although I feel so rage starved sometimes that I simply choose to prepot rage. Later in the fight you can use a agi pot for dodge / armor pot for armor or a strength pot for some extra dps. Prepotting agi can also be good on bosses such as chim/halfus, where avoiding attacks is very important (If you are tanking Halfus obviously).

Impending victory is an interesting talent, although very very situational. Can be very useful on some fights.

Not much to say about glyphs. Prime glyphs are no-brainers, while major glyphs depend on your assignment. Can be cleave/sunder/shockwave/spell reflect(cho'gall HC)/thunderclap/piercing howl etc.

I currently do not have a 2nd stamina trinket (apart from blue ones) and I hope to get one soon. The mastery/40% reduced magic dmg trinket is a very very good trinket for warriors though, and there is no reason not to use it if there is any magic dmg involved.

Future Upgrades: I am hoping to get the maloriak HC mace soon, combinded with a new ring! We basically have had zero epic tanking rings drop, and both our tanks are running valor point ring + a blue. Magmaw HC boots / valiona trinket / atra(sinestra) neck / nef shield.

I use 4set atm, for 6sec longer shield wall. Which is a huge buff to our shield wall. I do however plan to obtain council HC gloves and al'akir HC legs with mastery or a mastery shoulder piece (halfus Dps ones for example) for fights where the shield wall buff is not so important.

Consumables: Mastery/Stam food, mastery/prismatic elixir unless the fight has zero magic dmg.

Fury!

I have only played fury once on atramedes (Could not find the log though..), but my gear is upto date and close to full epic. I find my fury information on EJ and gear/respec/gem after their tips and spreadsheets.

This is an old WOL from wotlk. I played this war as an alt in my weekly pug who downed 11/12 HC.

Do note this was my alts offspec! (264 gear mostly, no smourne)
You may also see another familiar name :) Hint: #5.

Figured i'd add whatever screenshots I had from ICC days:
http://img837.imageshack.us/i/luunzwol.jpg/

Where do I go to find information?

I usually check EJ/tankspot for any new and cool stuff. I read mmo-champion on a hourly basis..yeah :/. I also use Rawr and different spreadsheets if I feel they will help me improve my gear.

G. Link you characters armory page: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/sunstrider/luun/advanced

Wotlk/Tbc/Vanilla alts:

Druid: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/sunstrider/lunoz/advanced - Mostly ulduar + Naxx achievements
Priest: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/sunstrider/soluun/advanced - Mostly ICC/ToGc achievements
I have every class at level 80 except pala/lock. (Had them both above level 70 though)

3) IN-GAME & PERFORMANCE INFORMATION

A. Playing times: I usually play every day. Usually from 14ish-00. Can obviously stay online longer if needed.
I am only at school 2 days a week, so I can also be online early on wed/thu/fri.
B. Previous Guild(s): Current guild is Numbers Mate on Sunstrider EU. I am the guild master of this guild and have been playing here for about 9 months.
Note worthy guilds before that: Operation Eskimo & Bad Omen. Other than that just "local" guilds in tbc/vanilla.
C. Reason for leaving previous Guild(s):
Numbers Mate: After making the guild and having a good time in wotlk with ICC we recently had alot of good players quit the game and we basically can't replace them.
We tried merging with another guild on sunstrider and we did get 6/13 HC in a few days, although the merge did not work out as planned and we decided to call it off.
Went back to raiding with original Numbers Mate, although we decided to try 10man, because we could not gather enough good players for 25.
Been going quite good, 8/13 HC atm with only 1 month of raiding. We also had several people (roster of 11 players) afk quite alot last few weeks, hurt progress ALOT.
Got several top 5 world kills on 10man HC bosses. Lately performance and attandence has gone down and it is basically 5 world class players and 5 "ok" players, who are holding us back.
Tried to recruit or bring in new blood but no luck so far, therefor I am looking for a new home so I can actually have fun while playing compared to being tired and annoyed.

Operation Eskimo: Joined this guild during ICC times, decided to leave the guild after I got promoted to member. The OE community is very special (in a bad way) and I simply did not like it.
I heard you have a few guys from old OE in your guild and i'm sure they will confirm this. You either like it or not.
I have no issues with offensive jokes and laughing at eachother, I am no crybaby.

Bad Omen: Raiding in Bad Omen during Ulduar and ToGc. Stayed there for a few months, achieving top 50 world kills on ulduar hardmodes such as FF and yogg+0. I decided to leave the guild during togc/toc times because they kept inviting "old raiders" on progression raids over new players (not me, although alot of good trials. Actually several people left due to this.) and I got fed up with it.
No guild should invite their "friends/old raiders" to progression raids over better players.

Other guilds I have been in have either disbanded or been non-serious guilds.

D. Previous PVE-experience (Vanilla-TBC-WotLK):

PvP-experience:
Vanilla: Rank 4.
Arena: 2450ish 2v2 s5. Not been pvping in any other season other than fun games.

Class & Spec = Current main(S) during that expansion.

Vanilla:
Class & Spec = Resto Shaman (Luunz)
MC: Full clear
BWL: Full Clear
ZG: Full Clear
Aq20: Full Clear
Aq40: First 2 bosses, guild disbanded afterwards.
Naxx40: Few tries on some bosses, although we only killed trash :)

TBC:
Class & Spec = Resto/Enh/Ele shaman(Luunz) // Feral tank (Lunoz) // Hunter (Zulini)

Raided on my shaman with whatever spec was needed, during BT/SWP: Enh.
Raided with my druid after my shamans guild disbanded, was raidleading in a small guild doing BT/MH.
Raided with my hunter in late TBC, basically while waiting for WOTLK.

Kara: Full clear
Gruul: Full clear
Mag: Full clear
ZA: Full clear
TK: Full clear (Post-nerf)
SSC: Full clear (Post-nerf)
MH+BT: Full clear, after they removed the pre-q, although I did finish the pre-q and we did kill about 60% before they removed the attunement.
SWP: 4/6 pre-nerf, 6/6 post-nerf

WOTLK:
Class & Spec = Resto Shaman(Luunz) // Prot war (Luun) // Shadow and healing priest (Soluun) // Feral tank + cat + moonkin (Lunoz)

Raided on my shaman in late wotlk, while waiting for cataclysm (Was going to be my cata main)
Raided with my warrior during ICC, mostly because our tanks were not good enough so I had to reroll from priest.
Raided on my priest as shadow/healer during togc/ICC, rerolled tank middle icc because our tanks were not good enough.
Raided on my druid from the start of wotlk to the release of ToGc. Pre ulduar I raided as tank/feral dps. During ulduar I raided as both moonkin and feral, whichever was best for the current fight.

Naxx25: Full clear - Immortal / black proto etc (pre any nerf/new content)
OS: Full clear
Malygos: Full clear, server first
Ulduar10 HC: Full clear, server first
Ulduar25 HC: Full clear, server first on both yogg+0 and algalon. Top 50 world kill on yogg/FF (pre-nerf).
ToGc10/25 HC: Full clear
Immortality: Hunter dies on 5%, then we manage to wipe 7 times before we kill him that reset :)
ICC10HC: Full clear, 15% buff for LK HC. (0% for the rest)
ICC25HC: Full clear, 30% buff sadly for LK, 10% for the rest(prof/sind). When we created Numbers Mate we did however kill LK HC within 90 minutes of our first pull (Fresh guild!)
RS10/25 HC: Full clear

Cataclysm:
Class & Spec = Resto Shaman (Luunz) // Prot war (Luun)

Played my shaman for the first month, then rerolled warrior due to lack of good tanks.

5/6 BWD HC
1/5 BoT HC
2/2 TotfW HC (Server first al'akir)

(We did not have ANY beta raiding experience whatsoever)
World rank: http://img822.imageshack.us/i/world310man.png/
We set up several leveling groups and managed to hit 85 within 10 hours(The fastest ones). Started raiding quickly the day after and we ended up getting world 2nd kill on cho'gall (10).
We raided 10man first week of cata due to our guild only raiding 3 days a week, aka we had alot of casuals who could not level up as fast as the most hardcore players.
Achieved alot of top 10 world kills on normal mode, however when we reached nef / HM our tanking problem started again. Freaking 90% of our wipes was due to tanks. So I rerolled AGAIN.

In 10man heroic we achieved several top 10 world 10man kills, although wowprogress is bugged when it comes to 10man rankings and you need to compare dates if you want a "10man rank".

It may seem like I am the kind of person who quickly becomes bored of their character and rerolls every 3rd month, however this is not true. I _ONLY_ reroll due to guild needs or at a point
where I am not in a raiding guild.
I have played ranged, healer, tank & melee over longer periods of time and I feel comfortable saying that I can play any role in a raid without a problem. I also keep my alts up to date and love
raiding on several characters. I also tend to keep my offspecs up to date and generally love to play them (I usually play hybirds). Right now as the MT in a 10man guild I do use two prot specs, although I know how to play fury and can easily go prot/fury if that is needed. (My gear is somewhat full epic with 3-4 372 pieces, sadly not got DW weps yet)

E. Describe your role in raids, aswell as a possible extraordinary role on some encounters: The obvious answer is to keep the group safe as a tank, and mostly that is what you do.
Prot warrior benefits in cataclysm:
Cho'gall HC: Using heroic leap to your advantage in order to place the adds at the same place.
Cho'gall HC: Spell reflect the fire buff he gains (5sec duration, 6sec cd (glyphed) - You will not "reflect" the dmg, but you will not take any dmg either).
Any boss involving kiting mobs or a boss: Warriors can glyph piercing howl, making it a 15 yards daze (6sec) and is very good tool to help you kite a bunch of adds. Maloriak HC for example.
Warriors have some of the best tools in general kiting. Spells such as charge/intercept/intervene combinded with heroic leap, possibly racial(worgen/goblin) and a speed pot are very powerful tools on a ton of different fights.
High AoE-dmg: Warriors have very high aoe dmg as a tank, which is positive considering raid dps and threatwise.
Heroic Leap: This ability makes us able to "skip" alot of abilities on different encounters. A warrior maintanking al'akir can heroic leap through tornados, combine that with 2 charges and you have a very "safe" tank.
Shield-block and block in general: Having a high chance to avoid 30 or 60% damage on a physical attack is very usefull. Each time you have shield block you have a 100% chance of avoiding at least 30% physical dmg for 10sec. (33% Uptime).
Intervene is also a very intersting ability and can be used in alot of different situations.

Some downsides to using a warrior tank is the lack of magic dmg reduction cooldown / a raid cd (think prot pala). Although come next content patch we will get a 25% magic reduction built into our shield block, making it an INSANELY overpowered spell.
We also get a 10sec long "raidwise last stand", which will be very helpful and is in many ways similar to the prot paladin spell.
This is also a reason why some warrior tanks gems/gears for high stamina, to help avoid magical attacks.

We also bring sunder armor, which is always nice to get from your tank, so dpsers don't have to worry about it. (Shattering throw aswell)

F. Link us a WWS/WMO/DPS report to show your performance raidwise:
Warrior: http://worldoflogs.com/guilds/86819/calendar/02-11/
Mage (Do note: This was 6 days after I dinged): http://worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-o1wghfq7c6bmxfs1/

G. Link us your former DKP Profile/Guild DKP system: We do not run any attendance tracker. In cataclysm I have only missed one raid, due to a birthday. Feel free to watch WoL if you want.
H. We take PTR seriously, do you have any issue being raid ready on PTR for raiding content? No, not at all, I have done PTR raids before.

4) COMPUTER AND INTERNET INFORMATION

A. Computer specifications: I am by no means a computer expert, so i'm sorry if this is not the information you were looking for. I bought the computer a few months before cataclysm. (Worth around 2.5k Euros)
Intel(R)core(TM)i7CPU 870 @ 2.93GHz(8 CPUs), 2.9GHz
4 GB ram
64-bit
5.9 score on the windows score thing :)
B/C. Internet-connection + Do you have issues with D/C due to internet/comp. problems?
My ingame MS is around 30-60 and I don't DC unless blizzard has server issues. It does happen like once or twice a year that my internet company fucks it up,
although I live in Norway and we are all spoiled bastards with high-tech stuff so that doesn't really happen alot.
Ingame FPS around 60-120.
D. Do you have a microphone and are you able to communicate on Teamspeak 3.0? Yes I can speak/listen to both vent and TS. I have been raid leading since TBC so talking on vent/TS is nothing new for me.
E. Screenshot of your in-game UI showing your keybinds: http://img219.imageshack.us/i/luunui.jpg/
My mouse has 12 extra buttons + I have a g15 keyboard so some keybindings may seem a tad wierd.
The five buttons in the middle of my screen may seem unbinded, although they are simply there so I can see their cd. (They are binded below).

I will simply list the abilities NOT key-binded: Potions + Pull macro. I decided to unbind my potions simply so I would not missclick them.

Macros: I don't use too many macros on my warrior, although I use a mouseover intervene macro quite often. Very nice for kiting situations.

5) SHOW US YOUR BEST, NOT SCRUB

A. Why do you want to join ScrubBusters? After seeing you recruitment post in late WOTLK (while I was posting my own!) I have always rememberd the guild.
After seeing your recruitment videos, which were very appealing I decided to make an application. You seem to be able to keep focus while having fun in raids, which is a big plus in my book!
I also liked the idea of joining a guild with similar progress to what I personally have. Joining a 13/13 guild is not very appealing to me, I want to progress! :)
I would also like to try out alliance again so I can /pat gnomes!

B. Why should we pick you? You should pick me because I am the kind of player who puts the guild ahead of myself. As a guild master/raid leader myself I know the importance of showing up and if you can't for some reason; do tell your raid leader in time!
I am also the kind of player who can play several specs and classes without much practise needed. I am not the kind of guy who can only stand there and press fireball. I have also played this game for several years and know how to deal with most raid situation!

C. What are you goals besides character development in World of Warcraft: I like to be able to finish content before the next content patch. I love serverwide competition and possibly competition for world kills if the guild is good enough.
I have little interest in achievements for the sake of achievements, although I do enjoy getting new mounts etc.
D. Is there anything you would like to add? Hmm, don't think so. Feel free to ask if I forgot anything vital!
E. Is there anyone in ScrubBusters who can possibly vouch for you? Doubt it :(
F. How did you hear about us? Mmo-champion in 2010 + recruitment video.

6) CONFIRMATION

Take your time to look through your application before you submit.
A. Are you sure this is your final application? Yes!
B. Now end your application by telling us a joke: I will post a picture of a cute seal in a desperate attempt to make you forget the fact that I did not include a joke :(
